Privacy Policy

1. Who we are
Quail (“Quail,” “we,” “our”) provides a payment-confirmation and order-management service for independent restaurants. This policy explains what information we collect from customers and restaurant owners, how we use it, and how we protect it.
2. Information we collect
From customers placing an order:
- Order details (restaurant, items, amount, timestamp)
- Payment confirmation data (parsed from bank-alert emails forwarded by the restaurant)
- Bank-handle identifier (email or phone) from the customer's payment app
- Optional phone number (only if customer opts into SMS order updates)
- Optional name (only if customer provides it at order time)
From restaurants:
- Business name, location, hours, recipient bank handle (Zelle)
- Order activity (volume, revenue, payment confirmation rates)
- Owner contact information (email, optional phone)
3. How we use it
- To process and reconcile customer payments with open orders
- To send transactional SMS updates about order status (only if the customer opts in)
- To provide restaurant owners with order management and reporting tools
- To prevent fraud and ensure the integrity of the payment-confirmation pipeline
4. How we DO NOT use it
We do not share customer or restaurant information with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising. Phone numbers collected for SMS are used solely for transactional order updates — never for promotional content.
5. SMS messaging specifics
Customers who opt into SMS order updates do so by affirmatively entering their phone number at checkout in the Quail widget. Messages are transactional only: payment confirmation, order acceptance, ETA updates, ready-for-pickup notices, and refund notices. Customers can opt out at any time by replying STOP. No marketing, promotional, or affiliate content is sent through this channel.
Message frequency depends on order activity — typically 2-4 messages per order. Message and data rates may apply depending on the customer's carrier plan.
6. Data sharing with restaurants
Restaurants receive the customer information needed to fulfill the order: order details, optional name, and (only if the customer opted in) phone number for order updates. The restaurant does not receive raw customer financial data beyond the payment confirmation amount.
7. Third-party service providers
Quail uses the following service providers to operate the platform:
- Supabase (hosting database for orders and accounts)
- Vercel (web hosting)
- Cloudflare (DNS, email routing)
- Twilio (transactional SMS delivery)
- Resend (transactional email delivery)
- Anthropic (AI features for menu ingestion and reconciliation, where applicable)
These providers process data only as needed to deliver the service and are bound by their own published privacy obligations.
8. Data retention
Order records and payment audit trails are retained for as long as the restaurant's account is active. After a restaurant offboards, the restaurant has 30 days to export its own business data; thereafter we delete it, retaining only the minimum required for legal/financial audit obligations. Customer identifiers (phone, name, bank-handle) belong to the customer and are preserved across restaurants for cross-merchant loyalty (Quail Points).
9. Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting us at the address below. We respond within 30 days.
10. Children
Quail is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted here with an updated “Last updated” date.
